WOW it’s a VIkram starrer, Man he looks so different from his highly successful "Deivathirumagal". He looks stunning to say the least, more like a Hollywood star. He has worked his A$$es off for this character, Surya watch out you have tight competition from this Mr. Perfect (even in the type of pant's he wore in this movie!).
With all these thoughts we walked in to PVR (Skywalk-Chennai) for a night show, my daughter was more than excited to see a Vikram movie yet again, after Deivathirumagal she is an ardent follower of Vikram (Krishna, according to her) as well. The movie was scheduled to begin at 21:45 per the ticket and we were seated by around 21:50 and eventually the movie started by around 22.00 (Can't figure out why PVR prints the show time as 15 mins earlier, if it’s to make sure everyone in the theater gets to see the movie from its title & credits, then it’s a job well done. However, if its genuine delay, then SORRY guys you have a brand name to keep up to.
From the promos it was clear that it’s a movie on Land grabbing a real HOT topic in Chennai, so the expectations were set, and in some promotional shows both the hero and the director kept repeating that it’s an outright masala flick (Guess it was an early warning which me and my family dint heed to). So the title credits had this good CG where all the credits were given on stamp papers (something like an indication to what is in store). However, 10 mins in to the movie and one get’s bored to say the least.
After three successful movies like "Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu", "Naan Mahan Alla" and "Azhagar Samiyin Kuthirai", much was expected off Suseendiran and he disappointed with this one. It’s either that he has no abilities to make a good masala movies or this movie was directed by one of his assistants who just joined him a week back. The action sequences are choreographed by Anal Arasu ( Ironically the hero is also called "Anal" Murugan in the film), who I presume was watching a lot of Jackie Chan movies while working on this film, he tried to mix a lot of comedy in to the action sequences and the end output I should say is GROSS. Yuvan’s music does not do any justice to his own credentials as a bankable music director nor to the movie.
This we are told is mass movie and the only MASS we can see is with the number of gym boys in the movie, we can divide them in to three sets, 1) with Vikram who is a Gym boy by himself in the Movie ( who aspires to be the greatest Villain ever on screen). 2) The second set is with Actor Avinash who is plays the bad boy turning good character of Veteran actor K Vishwanath’s Son. 3) Third set is with the main Villain of the movie.
Now to the plot of the Movie, Vikram is the self established leader of the Film Industries Gym boys group (he wears funny dresses and is accompanies by gym boys who looks straight out of some fancy dress competition) and he happens to save K Vishwanath from his Son’s Goons. K Vishwanath opens his flashback of how he was a play boy in his young age and how he met his wife and then started working very hard to become rich. He supposedly owns many properties in Chennai one of which is a 2500 acre Orphanage in some important area in Chennai which his son Avinaash is ready to trade with AKKA (who is portrayed as the main land grabber and thus the main Villain, I could not figure out her real name for you guys). Murugan (Vikram) takes it’s on himself to save K Vishwanath from the goons and K Vishwanath in turn tries to fix things between Vikram and Deeksha Seth (whom Vikram has been sighting for more than 3 years). How Vikram helps K Vishwanath to save his property from the Villains forms the rest of the story. And, I forgot to mention the Character of “Vappa” played by Ghajini fame Pradeep Rawat, well actually there is nothing much to mention here, Vappa is a Benamy to all of Akka’s illegal land grabbing’s and is eventually killed by Akka when he is caught and exposed to the media by Vikram (Was the director trying to make a similarity to Sadiq Batcha?, that’s up to the audience to decide).
Time and again the directors are making big mistakes of placing their selling point songs at wrong positions, the “Laddu laddu” song featuring Shirya Saran and Reema Sen comes all the way at the end before/along the end title credits by when we are already exhausted and waiting for the EXIT doors to open. Did the director expect the crowds to sit and watch this song after 2.5 hours of sleep?
Vikram: This is his second attempt at Fancy dress (After Kandasami, at least there was some logic there), he has spend a lot of time and energy getting to different looks which is commendable but purely unnecessary.
Deeksha Seth - She is at least better than Rich Gangopadhyay and Hansika Motwani, but some work to better her ROCKy expressions is always welcome.Yuvan : Mediocre music and BG does not take you anywhere near your dad where you aspire to be.
Suseendiran – Its better you stick to realistic movies and not burn your hands at Masala, we have better masala makers in the industry and a dearth of realistic movie makers
